  • Bri-Ann Richter-Abitol, MS, LCMHC, LMHC

    Founder

Bri-Ann is a graduate of Long Island University, C.W. Post's CACREP Certified Master's program in School Counseling with an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She graduated as a member of Chi Sigma Iota, Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society which recognizes high attainment in the persuit of academic and clinical excellence in the field of counseling. She has had many years of experience interning and working with children in schools and in a psychiatric inpatient unit. Her proudest and closest to heart experience was training and working under Jeffrey A. Roosa, LCSWR of Roosa Counseling Services, where she served as a Staff Therapist for years. Bri-Ann saw adults and couples on top of working with Jeff in his successful play therapy program. Bri-Ann has always held an interest in helping people and the counseling field. Dating back to her childhood, she could be found pretending to have her own practice and clients. During her time as an undergraduate in Psychology at the University at Albany she joined the Middle Earth Peer Assistance Hotline Program where she helped students cope with emotional, social and other life issues. She has always loved working with children and adolscents which is why prior to becoming a Clinical Mental Health Counselor she obtained a Master's of Science in School Counseling. Bri-Ann's true passion (besides her two little girls) is to provide cognitive behavioral therapy to children, adolescents, adults and couples. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy as her theoretical orientation. This theory assumes that faulty thinking patterns cause maladaptive behaviors. She works with her clients to change irrational thoughts and/or behaviors in order to make progress and reach their therapeutic goals. She specializes in anxiety and anger management, improving relationships and coping skills.

  • Emily Jurries, MS, LCMHCA, CRC

    Therapist

Emily received a Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She spent six years conducting research and working in a clinical setting with young children and adolescents experiencing stressful life situations and a variety of mood disorders. Emily further strengthened her skills during an internship in Raleigh where she provided counseling services to adolescents and adults. She enjoys counseling individuals of all ages: and all cultures including people of all gender identities and sexual orientations. Emily was inspired to become a mental health counselor by seeing her mother’s success as a children’s counselor. She saw the positive impact her mother had on families and realized that becoming a counselor and being there for people when they need it most would fulfill her career goals. Emily strongly believes in the power of recreation for improving overall mental health. She loves the outdoors, her adorable dog “Manny” and has recently taken up the guitar! After reading the A Little Counseling website, Emily instantly connected with Bri-Ann’s ideals of therapy and reached out to join the team. Emily is also very passionate about helping individuals with their anxiety! She believes anxiety and depression are incredibly common concerns that often accompany transitions, stressors or come out of the blue. Regardless of the severity, she believes that there is always room to help you feel more secure with yourself and others!
